To the left is the ferry terminal, to the right is the proposed museum. In the middle is a step park that leads to a lookout point on the dock.
Question: Should I take down the "tower" of the ferry terminal? Is it so oppressive?

I actually like the tower! Good job!
The tower is a nice thought, but careful of the scale.
I would weight the compositional and metaphoric value of your tower with the quality and type spaces you are making within and outside of it.
It would be helpful to see your model from an additional angle to see how it impacts the site.
Interesting layout and massing. Looking at this and your most recent usage sketches I have to also add that the tower could be scaled a bit over proportion. Think about the usage that you plan for this, and maybe how it might serve the rest of the complex. Is it a light tower? A switchbox??
I consider the tower very aggresive. Do you need it functionally ?
